Types of consulting
There are various types of consulting, for each type of regular business and activity, pretty much as one could expect. Everyone who has achieved a certain level of expertise in one field or another may want to share it with others and start a consulting business in the respective area. Some of these areas are more lucrative than others, depending either on how popular the respective field is (if your field of expertise is the training of red panda bears, it is somewhat likely that you will have to deal with a very small number of clients) and the type of information available in the area. These things evolve in time, so they are bound to change, and they may also vary according to your location.

The computer consultancy area is one of the most lucrative options available today, in any area involved: hardware, software, repairs, maintenance, and so on. Business consultancy is also a good area, and, while setting up your own business, you may discover that you have what it takes for it, and you can help others start their own businesses as well.

Advertising is also in fashion today, with freelance designers and copywriters being used by everybody, from small, family businesses to multinational corporations. Accounting may be one of the fastest growing fields for consultancy today, since everybody needs to organize their books, or to have their bookkeepers supervised by someone else. Auditing is also entrusted to third parties, quite often, in order to avoid the bias and prejudice of those who are already full time employees with the respective company. Taxes, just like accounting, may be a sore point where companies need consulting. Many companies prefer to outsource the communications and public relations department.

Gardening is also a great solution, even if few people think of it at the first time. If you have a talent for it, you can start by taking care of a gold course or some club garden, to gain exposure among the members of the respective club, and they may hire you for their own projects.

Human resources is a good idea if you have good people skills, and may companies, particularly new companies, have to outsource it. Payroll management is also often outsourced, and it requires a combination of people skills with accounting, and can be a very lucrative area for those who can handle it well. A rather unusual field is called "executive headhunting" - a specialized variation of human resources, a sort of a modern-day bounty hunter, which can bring great rewards and accomplishments.

Writing services and publishing can also be solutions for consultancy, in various area (as there are many means of getting something published today - magazines, newspapers, newsletters, internet, many other combinations of the traditional and digital world - and you can specialize on each of those, or have a general offer for them).

Marketing is often a department that works a lot with consultants and external employees. Companies often need a "new point of view" or somebody who can "think out of the box", and thus are interested to hear what you have to day. Again, a field that can bring great rewards and satisfactions for those who have these abilities, and a certain amount of courage.
